In this delightful rendition of Hans Christian Andersen’s Thumbelina,
a miniature girl—no bigger than a thumb!—journeys through the
seasons and a series of natural habitats to her final home in the land of
the flower fairies. Along the way, Thumbelina meets a family of frogs,
a parade of astounding insects, a meddling field mouse, a vain mole
and a wounded bird in need of her help. Oregon Shadow Theatre’s
adaptation features Art Nouveau designs and a soundscape inspired
by the Flower Power music of the 1960s. The magical art of shadow
puppetry and live music (featuring electric guitar, hammer dulcimer,
sound effects and voices) bring to life the wonders of the natural world
and the enchantment of the fairytale world. Musical instruments and
sound effects are demonstrated before each performance and after the
play students get a behind-the-scenes look at the shadow puppets and
special effects. Download Program Guide |
