Zampoña (Panflute)
Grupo Condor ensemble leader Gerardo Calderon teaches students about one of the oldest instruments used by the native people of the Andes Mountains. They examine zampoñas made of clay, copper, gold, bamboo and condor feathers, then craft their own out of plastic pipe. This residency culminates with an informal student recital. Add to Wishlist

Talking with Percussion
Students explore rhythm in a variety of ways while learning about the role of the tambor de agua/water drum in ancient Mexican cultures. Gerardo leads exercises to develop physical coordination and students investigate visual symbols by inventing clapping rhythms. They paint the water drums with geometric and numerical symbols, then practice basic percussion techniques with Gerardo. This five-session residency can culminate in a performance for peers or families. Add to Wishlist
